What MealNav stores, and why.

Last updated: September 2026.

MealNav is a meal planner. It stores what it needs to plan your meals, build your shopping lists, and show your macros on every device you sign in on. It shows no ads, sells nothing about you, and uses no advertising trackers.

Your account

Sign-in is handled by Clerk, an identity provider. Clerk holds your email address (or the identity from the sign-in provider you chose) and your password or passkey; MealNav’s own servers never see your password. What MealNav keeps is your Clerk user id, so it can tell your data from everyone else’s.

What you put in the app

This is stored on MealNav’s servers, hosted on Heroku in the United States, in a database that only the MealNav service can reach.

Content you share

Sharing a meal creates a public link. Anyone with the link can see that meal — its title, image, ingredients, instructions, and per-serving macros — and nothing else about you. Custom meals and shopping-list items you name may be reviewed by MealNav’s operators before they become visible to other users; until then they are visible only to you.

The AI assistant

Assistant requests are answered by a large language model from Anthropic. Each request sends your prompt and the context the app assembles for it — your dietary preferences, unit preference, age (derived from your birth date, if entered), today’s macro goals and plan, and whatever you attached. MealNav keeps no transcript of your prompts linked to your account.

Purchases

MealNav Plus is billed by the app store you bought it from. Subscription status is managed through RevenueCat, which tells MealNav whether your account has Plus; MealNav never sees your payment details.

Food data

Recipes and their nutrition come from a licensed recipe provider and are cached briefly on MealNav’s servers. Barcode scans look products up in Open Food Facts and USDA FoodData Central; the barcode is sent to those services, nothing about you is. Nutrition figures throughout the app are estimates, not medical advice.

On your device

The app keeps a local copy of your data so it opens quickly, and your color theme choice stays on the device. Camera access is requested only for barcode scanning and is used for nothing else.

Deleting your data

Account → Delete account removes your profile, plans, lists, favorites, goals, subscription record, and every custom meal that was still private to you from MealNav’s servers, and deletes your Clerk account. Custom meals that had already been published into the shared catalog stay available to other users, with your account detached from them. This is immediate and cannot be undone. Your app-store subscription, if any, is cancelled through the store.

Children

MealNav is not directed at children under 13, and we don’t knowingly collect their data.

Changes and contact

If this policy changes materially, the date above changes with it and the app will say so. Questions: support@meal-nav.com.
